Short answer
Intercom Surveys cost $99 a month on top of at least one Intercom seat, because surveys are only sold inside the Proactive Support Plus add-on. The add-on includes 500 Messages Sent a month, shared with posts, product tours, mobile push and carousels. Above 500, every survey shown costs between $0.07 and $0.0175 on a graduated scale, whether or not anyone answers it. The smallest possible bill is $128 a month: one Essential seat at $29 billed annually plus the $99 add-on.
Unify · surface the why · traced to evidence
Intercom is where a lot of US SaaS companies already talk to their customers, so it is the obvious place to run an NPS question, a CSAT check after a support chat or a short onboarding survey. The survey builder is good. The price is what surprises people, because it is not on any plan card. Surveys sit inside an add-on called Proactive Support Plus, and the add-on bills by a metric called Messages Sent.
Intercom's main pricing page tells you the add-on costs $99 a month for 500 messages and that additional messages are charged per unit. It does not say what the unit costs. That table lives in a help center article, and it has nine tiers.
We read both pages from a US connection on 14 October 2026, wrote down exactly what each says, and worked out what Intercom Surveys cost at the volumes product and support teams actually run. Where a number is our arithmetic, the page says so.

Why it works
What your team gets with Intercom Surveys pricing
Surveys are an add-on, never a plan feature
No Intercom plan includes surveys. Essential, Advanced and Expert all need Proactive Support Plus, a $99 a month add-on, before the survey builder sends anything. Intercom's help center is explicit that these features are not sold separately.
You pay for surveys shown, not answered
Intercom counts a Message Sent every time a survey is shown to someone who matches your audience rules, every time someone touches the first question embedded in an email, and every time someone opens a survey's shareable link. A survey ignored by 80 people costs the same as one answered by 80.
The 500 messages are shared
The 500 Messages Sent included with the add-on cover posts, mobile push, product tours, mobile carousels, series and surveys together. A product team that runs onboarding tours can use up the allowance before the first NPS survey goes out.

Why UserInsight
One platform that fuses behavior and voice
Not an analytics tool that only shows the what, not a feedback repository that is blind to behavior. UserInsight joins both and surfaces the why, on aggregate consented data with no PII.
Unifies every source
Usage analytics, tickets, reviews, surveys and in-app feedback come together in one model, so behavior and voice finally live in the same place.
Surfaces the why
You do not write a query and wait. UserInsight tells you why churn moved and what to build next, ranked and quantified, the moment it changes.
Traced to evidence
Every insight links back to the specific tickets, reviews and events behind it, so you can click through and trust what you act on. No black box.
At a glance
Intercom Surveys cost by monthly volume. Base fee and per-message tiers from Intercom's Proactive Support Plus help article, read 14 October 2026. Totals are our arithmetic on the graduated tiers and exclude the Intercom seat.
| Surveys and other messages shown a month | Proactive Support Plus a month | Average cost per message shown | Per completed response if 1 in 4 answer | Add-on cost a year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 500 | $99 | $0.198 | $0.79 | $1,188 |
| 1,000 | $134 | $0.134 | $0.54 | $1,608 |
| 2,000 | $194 | $0.097 | $0.39 | $2,328 |
| 3,000 | $244 | $0.081 | $0.33 | $2,928 |
| 5,000 | $324 | $0.065 | $0.26 | $3,888 |
| 10,000 | $474 | $0.047 | $0.19 | $5,688 |
| 25,000 | $849 | $0.034 | $0.14 | $10,188 |
| 50,000 | $1,474 | $0.029 | $0.12 | $17,688 |
| 100,000 | $2,724 | $0.027 | $0.11 | $32,688 |
Tiers are graduated: messages 501 to 1,000 cost $0.07 each, 1,001 to 2,000 $0.06, 2,001 to 3,000 $0.05, 3,001 to 5,000 $0.04, 5,001 to 10,000 $0.03, 10,001 to 100,000 $0.025, 100,001 to 250,000 $0.02 and above that $0.0175. The 1 in 4 response column is an illustration, not an Intercom figure; divide the monthly fee by your own completed responses. Add at least one seat, $29 a month on Essential billed annually or $39 billed monthly.
How much do Intercom Surveys cost
The add-on is $99 a month and includes 500 Messages Sent. Intercom's help center lists the price for every message above that on a graduated scale: $0.07 each for messages 501 to 1,000, $0.06 for 1,001 to 2,000, $0.05 for 2,001 to 3,000, $0.04 for 3,001 to 5,000, $0.03 for 5,001 to 10,000, $0.025 for 10,001 to 100,000, $0.02 for 100,001 to 250,000 and $0.0175 above 250,000.
Graduated means each tier price applies only to the messages inside that band. So a month with 3,000 surveys shown costs $99 plus 500 at $0.07, 1,000 at $0.06 and 1,000 at $0.05, which is $244. A month with 10,000 costs $474. A month with 100,000 costs $2,724. The table above runs the same arithmetic at nine volumes.
The add-on attaches to any core plan, so you also pay for at least one seat. Intercom's pricing page lists Essential at $29 a seat a month billed annually, or $39 billed monthly, Advanced at $85 and Expert at $132 billed annually. The smallest possible Intercom Surveys bill is one Essential seat plus the add-on, $128 a month or $1,536 a year on annual billing.
What counts as a Message Sent for surveys
Intercom's definition is the most important sentence on the page. A survey counts as a Message Sent every time it is sent, regardless of whether the survey was taken or completed. In practice that covers three events: a user matches your audience rules and is shown the survey, a user interacts with the first question embedded in an email, or a user clicks the survey's shareable link from a chat, post, email or web page.
The same rule applies to the other channels in the add-on. A product tour counts each time it is presented, even if the user closes it, and the same tour shown to the same person three times is three messages. A post seen on web and on mobile is two.
So the real unit of an Intercom Surveys budget is impressions, not answers. If your audience rule is loose, say every user on the pricing page, you pay for everyone who sees the survey and leaves.
Intercom survey cost per completed response
Because Intercom bills on surveys shown, the number to put in a budget is the fee divided by the answers you actually get. The last price column in the table shows that cost if one person in four answers. It is an illustration rather than an Intercom figure, and your rate will depend on placement, length and timing.
At 3,000 surveys shown a month, that works out to about $0.33 per completed response before the seat. At 10,000 shown, about $0.19. At 500 shown, inside the included allowance, the $99 base works out to about $0.79 per response, which is the most expensive point on the curve.
Two levers move this more than anything else. Tighter audience rules mean fewer impressions for the same answers, and a one-question survey usually completes more often than a five-question one. Both cut the per-response cost without changing the tier.
The 500 message allowance is shared with tours and posts
Product teams buy Proactive Support Plus for more than surveys. The same add-on unlocks product tours, posts, mobile push, mobile carousels and series campaigns, and all of them draw on the same 500 Messages Sent. Checklists, news, A/B testing, webhooks, versioning and event-based messaging are included with no usage charge.
This matters when you forecast. A SaaS app with 2,000 new signups a month that shows a welcome tour to each of them has spent 2,000 messages, $194 that month, before a single survey goes out. Add a monthly NPS survey to 4,000 active users and the month reaches 6,000 messages, which is $354.
Ask which team owns the add-on before you plan a survey program. If onboarding owns the tours and research owns the surveys, both are spending from one meter.
Intercom Surveys vs a dedicated in-app survey tool
The main alternative is a dedicated in-app survey product such as Survicate, which bills on responses rather than impressions. Survicate's Growth plan, read from its US pricing page in September 2026, runs from $56 a month for 100 responses to $289 a month for 1,500 responses on annual billing, and its event and behavior targeting is a Pro feature from $349 a month.
So the honest comparison depends on your response rate. A team that shows 3,000 surveys and collects 750 answers pays Intercom $244 for the add-on, plus a seat it likely already has. On Survicate's Growth ladder, 750 responses sits between the $169 and $229 rungs, but you would need Pro for the event targeting Intercom includes. A team with a low response rate pays Intercom for every skip; a team with a high one gets more answers per dollar from Intercom than from a per-response tool.
Intercom's real advantage is context. The survey reply sits on the same contact record as the support conversations, so a support lead can see that the person who scored 3 also opened four tickets last month.
How to keep an Intercom Surveys bill down
Target narrowly. A survey shown only to users who completed the action you are asking about produces fewer impressions and more useful answers than one shown to everyone on a page.
Use frequency limits. Intercom's add-on includes the option to send every time a person matches the rules until a condition is met, which is useful, but a survey that re-shows to the same user is billed every time.
Watch the tier you land in, not just the base fee. Moving from 2,000 to 3,000 messages adds $50 a month, but moving from 10,000 to 25,000 adds $375. If a quarterly survey to your whole user base pushes one month into a higher volume, plan for it in that month's budget.
Ask about contracts at scale. Intercom's help center says customers on a contract should talk to their account manager about the add-on, and above a few tens of thousands of messages a month that conversation is worth having.
What to do with the answers once you have them
Collecting replies is the cheap part. The expensive part is reading 750 open-text answers a month, linking them to the support tickets the same customers opened, and telling a product manager which three problems explain most of the low scores.
UserInsight connects to Intercom directly, reads conversations and survey replies together, and groups them into themes with the number of customers behind each one and links back to the original messages. It is sold self-serve: Starter is $1,434 a year billed annually, Growth $4,314, Scale $10,794 and Enterprise $17,988. Run the live Insight Studio demo at the top of this page to see how it turns tickets, reviews and survey replies into ranked themes before you buy.
